Sankararao Chappa, PhD in Chemistry

Hi! My name is Shankar, I did my PhD in chemistry from Bhabha Atomic research Centre affiliated to Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai, India.

I hold a BS in Science from Acharya Nagarjuna University, where I have studied mathematics, physics and chemistry. I did my masters in chemistry from Pondicherry central University where, I have worked in organic synthesis laboratory with Prof. HSP Rao. I did my PhD in chemical sciences, my research focused on synthesis of nanomaterials and study their applications in catalysis and separation. My doctoral thesis entitled as “Functionalized polymeric materials supported noble metal nanoparticles for catalyzing organic/inorganic redox reactions”. Synthetic polymer membrane and electrospun nano/microfibers modified with appropriate functional groups were used as host matrix for catalytic and separation applications. In addition to the Polymer membranes and electrospun micro fiber mat, the nanoparticles immobilized on to inorganic particles like Fe3O4, SiO2, TiO2 were also studied. I have also gained expertise in synthesis of ion-exchange membranes and hydro gels for sorption of actinides from radioactive waste and water treatment applications.

As a result of my education and research, I am knowledgeable in the field of material science, catalysis, chemical engineering, environmental science and related policy. I am now looking to apply these skills in a professional setting. I have a strong multidisciplinary education with a background in science and engineering. I am comfortable working anywhere in the world.
